Comprehensive Early Childhood Development

Supporting first steps today to build a better tomorrow

The Challenge

In Guatemala, more than 59% of the population lives in poverty, and one in four people lives in extreme poverty. In the communities where we work, 80% of the population belongs to the Maya people, and more than 60% of families live in precarious conditions. Chronic malnutrition affects six out of ten children under the age of five, and only 1% of children ages 0 to 4 receive early childhood educational services from the State. Additionally, four out of ten preschool-age children do not attend school. Limited access to basic services, healthcare, and adequate nutrition further deepens vulnerability. As a result, nearly 43% of children in the country are at risk of not reaching their full developmental potential.

Faced with this reality, our social program works to break the cycle of poverty from early childhood, improving education, nutrition and family health, and strengthening the resilience of rural communities seeking to build a dignified and sustainable future.

Our Solution

We work alongside families, communities, community leaders, and local and institutional stakeholders to strengthen comprehensive practices with cultural and linguistic relevance. Our approach ensures holistic development from the earliest years of life and builds the foundation for a more just future with greater opportunities.
